Plaintiff:
Jermaine Wilkins
Incident date:
12/31/2014
Location:
1300 W 73rd St.
Allegations:
Wilkins was sitting on a couch at a relative's house during a family gathering when they heard gunshots nearby. A few minutes later, the officers burst through the door with their guns drawn. Wilkins and his family members told the officers there was no gun in the house, nor had anyone fired a gun. The officers searched the house and did not find a gun. But they arrested Wilkins anyway and charged him with possession and discharge of a firearm. Wilkins spent nine months in jail before he was acquitted at trial. He lost his job as an electrical assistant and was unable to care for his young daughter.
