Case 16-CV-9881

$40,000

FALSE ARREST

Traffic stop On duty Threats/intimidation False arrest or report Other charges filed

Plaintiff: Joseph Shoemaker

Incident date: 09/23/2015

Location: 2600 W. Addison Ave.

Allegations:

Shoemaker was driving with his wife when Detective Johnson pulled over his vehicle. Johnson approached Shoemaker and began using profanities and threatening him and his wife. Shoemaker's wife recorded the entire encounter. Johnson arrested Shoemaker and told him that his fingerprints were going to go missing, which would keep him in custody for a while. Along with being detained, Shoemaker was issued false traffic tickets and a traffic citation for operating an uninsured vehicle despite repeatedly offering proof of insurance, which his wife later brought to the police station. Johnson filed a complaint that also charged Shoemaker with failure to obey police. Shoemaker was arrested and was found not guilty four months after the incident.
