Allegations:
Matthews was walking near his home with his brother when the officers approached with their guns drawn. The officers, who were in plainclothes, searched the men and took them into custody without cause. When Matthews asked the officers why they were being treated this way, Officer Roman kneed him in the stomach. Matthews was taken to the police station and charged with resisting arrest and aggravated battery. As a result of the charges, Matthews was detained in Cook County Jail for two months, then placed on electronic monitoring for 10 months until he was found not guilty at trial.
