Plaintiff:
David Nwosu-Iheme
Incident date:
02/21/2015
Location:
1601 W. Wilson Ave.
Allegations:
Iheme, who is disabled from multiple back surgeries, was driving when he noticed a police SUV tailing him. The SUV turned on its lights and pulled him over. When Officers Palmer and O'Reilly got to the plaintiff's car, he asked what he had done wrong. The officers told the plaintiff they didn't need a reason or to explain why they'd pulled him over. Iheme told the officers of his disability, but they ignored him and aggressively pushed him against his car to handcuff him. The officers put Iheme into the police SUV and searched his car. Scared and in pain, the plaintiff asked to go to a hospital and for officers to explain why he'd been stopped and handcuffed. The officers ignored him. Thirty minutes later, the officers finished searching the plaintiff's car, finding nothing illegal. They then told the plaintiff he was free to go. Iheme again asked to be taken to a hospital, but the officers again ignored him. Later that night Iheme took himself to a hospital to get relief for his back injury, which had been aggravated by the officers' treatment.
