Case 15-CV-4044

$5,000

FALSE ARREST

Stop and frisk On duty Destroy/conceal/fabricate evidence False arrest or report Other charges filed

Plaintiff: Eric B. Corder

Incident date: 05/09/2014

Location: 3554 W North Ave.

Allegations:

Corder was walking down a street when Officers Martinez and Perez approached him and asked who was driving a white Chrysler nearby. Corder told the officers that it was parked, so no one was driving it. Martinez became angry and kept questioning him. As Martinez began searching Corder, she asked him which gang he represented. He denied being involved with any gang. Perez searched the vehicle while Martinez ran Corder's name and license. Corder became frustrated with Martinez and confronted her, saying that police officers like the two of them had no respect for the civil rights of African Americans. Afterward, a police SUV arrived and took Corder to the police station. The officers filed false reports and did not keep the video footage of the incident. As a result of the officers' actions, Corder was imprisoned.
