Case 14-L-1224

$22,500

EXTENDED DETENTION

Racial epithets Threats/intimidation False arrest or report Extended detention Other charges filed

Plaintiff: Nathaniel Henry

Incident date: 09/09/2013

Location: 2420 N. Elston Ave.

Allegations:

Henry was driving when Officer Delgado and his girlfriend began following him in their vehicle. Officer Delgado gave him the finger and then pulled up beside him and said, “Nigger, why you cut me off? I'll have your black ass arrested.” Henry responded, saying, “F**k you, I know policemen, too.” Officer Delgado and his girlfriend then went to a police station, where Delgado identified himself as a police officer and falsely claimed that Henry had impersonated an officer during their interaction. Henry was arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer, and was incarcerated at Cook County Jail for three months, before he was found not guilty at a jury trial. During that trial, Detective Schenatzki, who had been assigned to investigate the allegations, falsely claimed that he had personally checked the department's pod system and didn't find any blue light cameras that could have recorded the incident, when in fact there were blue light cameras near the scene.
