Allegations:
Resendiz, then 19, was riding with a friend in his friend's car in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood when they were pulled over by police. Resendiz and his friend are Latino. The officers involved are white and also lived in Garfield Ridge, where they were known for patrolling the neighborhood and had “engaged in a pattern of violations as part of an effort to control the non-Caucasian residents.” Officer Campbell dragged Resendiz out of the car, grabbed him by the hair, slammed his face into the car, handcuffed him and searched him. The officers took Resendiz to a police station and charged him with possession of a controlled substance after they claimed to have found two small pills on him. The charge was later dismissed.
