Plaintiff:
Salvador Woodie
Incident date:
09/30/2008
Location:
1158 W. 63rd St.
Allegations:
Woodie, who had previously been a police officer, was at a restaurant on his lunch break wearing a name tag from Chicago Public Schools, where he was employed at the time. Because he was moving to a new home that day, Woodie had several items locked in his truck outside, including his former police patch, gun, bullets and bulletproof vest. Woodie still had a valid Firearm Owners Identification card and city registration for the gun. Officers Collins and Renteria arrested Woodie on suspicion of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated false impersonation of a police officer. Woodie spent 37 days in jail, during which time he lost his job at CPS and a job opportunity with Metra. Although Woodie was found not guilty of all charges four years later, the charges still appear on his record and have made it difficult for him to find a job and earn a living.
