Allegations:
Thirteen-year-old J.B. was walking home with his brother from the library, where he had been working on a school report about Martin Luther King Jr., when Sgt. Claeson pulled up next to them. He ordered the brothers to walk over to his squad car, and the boys complied. Claeson said, “Put your hands on the car, nigger.” J.B. placed his school report on the police car, then his hands. While his hands were on the hood of the car, Claeson punched J.B. in the face with a closed fist. J.B.'s older brother asked why the officer had hit his little brother, to which Claeson replied, “Shut up, nigger, before I punch you the same way I did your brother.” As backup officers were arriving, Claeson warned J.B., who was crying, that he better not tell the other officers what had just happened. J.B. was taken to the hospital and treated for a facial injury.
