Allegations:
In 1999, Crawford was arrested without a warrant and held in a cell for over 48 hours without access to clean drinking water or restroom facilities. He slept on the cell's concrete floor since he was not provided a mattress, blankets, and pillows for his metal plank bed. The only food offered was pork, which Crawford could not eat because of his religious beliefs. No hygiene products were provided during his detention. Five years later, Crawford was once again arrested without a warrant. The officers beat Crawford before taking him to a police station, where they left him on the floor with no food, bedding, hygiene products or access to medical care. When Crawford was transferred to Cook County Jail three days later, the jail refused to admit him with his untreated injuries. Crawford was charged with four counts of battery to an officer.
