Plaintiff:
Larry G. Nelson
Incident date:
02/11/2008
Location:
901 N. Pulaski Rd.
Allegations:
Nelson was sitting in his van at a gas station when Officers Lis, Novotny, Ruzak and Wilson arrived and pulled their guns out, aiming them at Nelson's face. The officers told him to get out of his car and threatened to “blast [his] ass.” Nelson exited the vehicle, and the officers twisted his arms, handcuffed him and searched the van without his consent. When the officers saw campaign signs in the back of the car, they realized he was a political candidate and said, “We suggest you get out.” The officers told Nelson to drive to a gas station up the road, wait for a few minutes and leave. When Nelson called the Chicago Police Department to report the abuse, he asked that the images taken by the nearby blue light surveillance cameras be preserved. The images were not preserved.
