FALSE ARREST

Home invasion Racial epithets Excessive force False arrest or report Physical force Assault or battery to an officer charges Hospitalized

Plaintiff: Orlando Edwards

Incident date: 03/03/2008

Location: 5736 W. Ohio St.

Allegations:

Officers Haritos and Park responded to a call of domestic battery at a residence. Once on the scene, officers were told the subject of the domestic battery was no longer home. Haritos and Park then verbally abused Orlando and Lee Edwards' mother, Mary Reed, and grandmother, Addie Reed. Mary told the officers to leave and called 911 for help. More officers entered the home. Orlando was tackled by officers, slammed on to the ground and hit in the legs with a blunt object. Haritos then placed Orlando in a headlock and punched him in the face. Orlando was handcuffed and led out of the home. On the way out, Haritos rammed Orlando's face into a door frame. Officers tackled Lee as he tried to leave through the home's rear exit. Haritos handcuffed him and said, "Nigger, I got you now." Haritos then slammed Lee's head and handcuffed wrists into the trunk of a police car while saying, "Hurts, nigger, don't it." An unknown officer told Mary , "If you don't like this, you shouldn't call 911." No one was given medical attention; instead they were taken to a police station. Several hours after their arrest, Edward and Lee were taken to a hospital for medical treatment after their lawyer arrived at the police station. Officers charged Edward and Lee with aggravated assault of police and other resisting arrest charges. These charges were later dismissed.
