Plaintiff:
Narmer Griffin
Incident date:
06/01/2008
Location:
727 E. 111th St.
Allegations:
Griffin was arrested around 10:30 a.m. and taken to a police station, where he was placed in an interview room with his right hand handcuffed to the wall. The handcuff was locked too tight on Griffin's wrist, and he began to cry out in pain, asking for it to be loosened. After about 30 minutes, Officer Marozas entered the room and told Griffin to stop yelling, ignoring Griffin's request to loosen the handcuff. At about noon, Officers Meagher and Marozas entered the room, uncuffed Griffin's hand and began stepping on Griffin's shoeless feet. They rushed Griffin to a corner of the room, where they continued to stomp on his bare feet and bend and twist his arms. They repeatedly punched, kicked and kneed Griffin's body, head and face, before several other officers entered the room and joined in. Officers Law and Marozas then put Griffin in handcuffs and tight leg shackles and dragged him out of the room and down a set of metal stairs. Griffin was put into a holding cell, where he cried out in pain, requesting medical care. That night, Griffin was taken to a hospital, where his cuts and injuries were examined. Griffin was then taken back to the police station. He later received dental treatments as a result of the officers' assault.
