$46,000

EXCESSIVE FORCE/MINOR

On duty Destroy/conceal/fabricate evidence Excessive force False arrest or report Physical force Other charges filed

Plaintiff: James Worthem

Incident date: 04/22/2007

Location: 3958 W. Grand Ave.

Allegations:

Detectives Ferraro and Scott arrested Worthem on charges related to an alleged robbery. The arrest was based on manipulating the witness' identification, fabricating evidence and conducting a suggestive lineup. During the arrest, Ferraro and Scott slapped Worthem and roughed him up. Officer Nolan and Detectives Murphy, Scott and Ferraro then searched Worthem's home, damaging Worthem's furniture and other property. After they finished the search, the detectives left the doors open, which led to the loss of many of Worthem's possessions. Worthem was found guilty and sentenced to 20 years in prison. He appealed the conviction and his case was sent back to court. Eventually, the charges were dropped.
