Allegations:
Washington and Yancy were placed in a police station photo lineup following a homicide and recognized by a witness, Thomas, as two men she saw in the vicinity of the shooting. Thomas, who used a false name at the time of the lineup, was on parole and her cousin was a suspect in the homicide. Police reports indicated that another woman, Tanna, also identified Washington and Yancy in a lineup, but signed statements indicate that she told officers she could not discern the two men she saw in the vicinity of the shooting and that officers attempted to coerce her to identify Washington and Yancy. The two men were charged with first-degree murder and spent over four years in the Cook County Department of Corrections awaiting trial. They were later acquitted of the charge.
